About the Team The Payments Legal team reports directly into the Global Legal Corporate Compliance organization and serves the ByteDance group of companies, including TikTok, in respect to payment compliance matters. In this role, you will dive deep into multi-jurisdictional regulations, synthesizing complex legal advice to achieve a cohesive, global standard for payments compliance. As a vital bridge between our Payment Legal experts and dynamic product teams, you will translate intricate legal frameworks into legal advice and mitigating solutions to relevant lines of business. Responsibilities - Act as the subject matter expert on legal payment compliance, building deep trust with Product teams and the wider business to influence and foster a strong, proactive culture of payments compliance. - Provide strategic advice and continuous review of laws, regulations, and payment network rules - money transfer, e-money, payment tokens (virtual assets), AML, and stored value/prepaid instruments - with emphasis on ad monetisation and e-commerce products. - Partner closely with Product, Compliance, Legal, Operations and other cross-functional teams across ByteDance and TikTok to mitigate risk, drive compliant product development and commercialisation of global payment initiatives. - Translate and communicate complex risk, legal, and regulatory concepts into actionable guidance for Creator Monetization and other product teams as well as external stakeholders. - Ensure seamless alignment between business goals and legal requirements, managing escalations effectively when necessary. - Standardise global payment legal guidelines and risk assessment frameworks, ensuring risk matrices remain robust, consistent, and up-to-date. - Manage partner engagement by collaborating closely with internal stakeholders to develop and execute engagement strategies for current and prospective external partners regarding payment compliance matters. - Navigate complex projects and lead multi-regional projects spanning diverse product lines and partners, effectively prioritising tasks and mitigating legal risks within fast-paced, high-impact timelines. - Drive ad-hoc initiatives and special projects as necessary to support the broader strategic objectives of the Global Payments and Global Legal Compliance teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: - Qualified lawyer with experience advising and reviewing payment regulatory matters, providing legal oversight and strategic direction for compliance programs across Fintech, Payments, or similar highly regulated environments. - Extensive legal and regulatory expertise regarding risks and regulations applicable to consumer-facing financial services and products, encompassing money transmission, e-money, AML, sanctions, and other financial crimes frameworks. - Proven ability to analyze complex legislation and regulatory guidance, synthesizing them into clear, actionable, and pragmatic legal advice that mitigates legal risk while supporting business objectives. - Demonstrated ability to build trust and influence business leaders, internal cross-functional teams and external stakeholders (regulators, external counsels, etc.). Hands-on experience leading complex, cross-functional legal and compliance initiatives. Preferred Qualifications: - Prior experience advising payments or regulatory matters within the Creator Economy or fast-scaling Tech/Fintech sectors is highly advantageous. - Direct experience advising product compliance and harmonising global or multi-regional regulatory frameworks for payment products across diverse jurisdictions. - Confident, pragmatic and commercially astute self-starter. Capable of exercising sound judgement to drive business impact without compromising regulatory integrity in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
