Responsibilities

Team Introduction: The ByteDance Tax team works closely with business and corporate functions to provide tax advisory, planning, compliance, and support across the business. We help ensure compliance with direct and indirect tax requirements while supporting the business in navigating tax-related matters and implementing practical solutions. We are looking for a Japan Tax Lead to join our Tax team in Tokyo. This role will be responsible for leading Japan tax matters and partnering closely with regional and global Tax teams, as well as local business and corporate functions. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of Japanese tax, sound judgment, and the ability to independently manage tax matters and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organization. This role is based in Tokyo and follows a full onsite work arrangement. Responsibilities: - Lead team in optimising end-to-end tax compliance procedures to mitigate risks and improve efficiency with coordination with other finance teams where relevant. - Manage tax inquiries and handle tax audits conducted by the tax authorities. - Monitor the tax legislation changes and assess the implications and ultimately suggest steps to manage those changes if applicable. - Provide practical tax analysis and solutions to all business lines. - Provide tax support on various projects, report project status and progress to management on regular basis.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualification(s): - Extensive years of tax experience across professional accounting/tax firms and/or multinational corporations, with hands-on experience covering Japan tax matters. - Strong technical knowledge of Japanese tax and the ability to assess complex business scenarios and clearly communicate tax implications to non-tax professionals. - Strong oral and written communication skills, with sound problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset. - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. - Proficiency in English is required to collaborate with internal stakeholders globally, where English is a primary working language. - Strong team management and leadership skills. Preferred Qualification(s): - Experience in the internet or telecommunications, media and technology industry and familiarity with related tax matters. - Certified Public Tax Accountant or other recognized Japanese tax/accounting qualifications.
