Role Overview

As a Principal UX Researcher at ID.me, you will spearhead our user research initiatives, creating a deep understanding of our users' diverse needs, wants, and motivations among our multifaceted teams. Your leadership in this role will be crucial to guiding our product's evolution, employing both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to understand and address user challenges. In collaboration with UX designers, product managers, and engineers, you'll impact every stage of product development, creating beneficial and delightful products that resonate with our users.
Your role will delve into the complexities of global user behaviors and needs. By using various research methods including surveys, focus groups, usability tests, and one-on-one interviews, you'll uncover invaluable insights into user interaction with our products, influencing the experiences of millions. As a communication expert, you will bridge the gap between technology and society, passionately conducting high-quality research and continuously learning to drive the future of ID.me. Responsibilities
- Collaborating closely with UX, product, engineering and marketing teams to identify key research areas.
- Establishing yourself as a leader in research, constantly advocating for potential product users.
- Designing and executing custom primary research end-to-end utilizing a broad range of methods.
- Conducting studies that analyze both the behavior and attitudes of users.
- Operating independently and with autonomy.
- Efficiently managing and prioritizing research plans in fast-paced and uncertain environments, aligning key insights with stakeholders.
- Communicating findings and presenting recommendations in an engaging and creative manner.
- Working cross-functionally with departments such as design, product management, engineering, and marketing.
- Generating insights that inspire ideation and evaluate design.
- Scaling and molding the UX research function within the company.
- Independently prioritizing and conducting research to advocate for and understand customer needs.
- Proficiency in executing end-to-end user research studies; from planning and recruitment to execution, analysis, and delivery.
- Evaluating the effectiveness of different user research methodology approaches and demonstrating expertise in a wide variety of methodologies.
- Providing advice and guidance to partner teams on appropriate research methodologies for their own research.
- Converting user insights into strategic recommendations to guide product partners in making informed decisions.
- Structuring, organizing, and advocating the impact of research on product design, go-to-market strategies, and future user research to partner teams through written reports and in-person presentations.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in human-computer interaction or related field.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in UX research or a related field, preferably in a senior role.
- A well-documented portfolio showcasing how your previous research has driven decision-making, with a clear demonstration of your ability to derive actionable insights from both qualitative and quantitative data.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting and executing primary research.
- Ability to convert research findings into strategic narratives that drive decisions.
- Extensive experience with survey design, especially surveys used to inform business and product needs.
- Familiarity with leveraging qualitative research methods, such as focus groups and interviews, to supplement quantitative research.
- Proficiency in delivering intricate findings in a concise and clear manner that prompts action.
- Capability to define the data environment using learning evaluation, theoretical frameworks, and other research insights.
- Proven experience in partnering closely with team leads, UX designers, engineers, PMs, executives, and other stakeholders to develop near and long-term metric strategies.
- Demonstrable experience with both quantitative and qualitative analyses, and the ability to use data presentation to advocate research findings with actionable insights.
- An ability to tackle complex research challenges within uncharted problem spaces, inventing new research methods as necessary. Demonstrable experience with varied user research methodologies, including study design, execution, data analysis, and deriving insights/recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a startup environment
- Demonstrated ability to strategically analyze and translate data into effective research recommendations.
- Hands-on experience with conducting research using prototypes in Figma and other tools.
- Deep-seated dedication to creating high-quality products.
- The ability to adapt and thrive amid changing priorities and demands.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
