Job Description:

This is a hybrid role, requiring presence in our Dublin office at least two times per week.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Principal Engineer who wants to bring their skills to bear and help shape and lead our new squad within Platform Engineering. The Platform Core Team’s goal within Workhuman is to support and enable our Product Teams to deliver work with considerable autonomy by also providing a robust and scalable platform

This role is for you if you have a passion for working with wide ranging technologies, get a kick out of architecting scalable and resilient systems, delivering well-designed code, and enjoy inspiring others to set high standards in technical excellence and delivering technology solutions which delight our customers.


A long list including Java, AWS, Terraform, Spring, Spring Boot, REST, Apache Camel, ActiveMQ, Oracle, Postgres, Jenkins, Sonar, Maven, Splunk, Git, Docker.

  • Involved in influencing the direction of our product strategy.

The skills you bring:

  • You have hands-on experience in agile software development, with a track record of delivering high quality, scalable, performant and secure client-facing applications.

  • You have strong experience in system design and architecting web and cloud-based solutions. You have a deep knowledge of non-functional requirements and are comfortable building reliable, maintainable, testable, accessible and observable software.

  • You have a strong background in Java or other object-oriented programming languages.

  • You are proficient with developing software with Relational Databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.). Experience working with Non-Relational Databases (e.g., Redis, DynamoDB, etc.) is a plus.

  • You have hands-on experience with some of the following AWS services - ECS Fargate, ECR, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, CloudFront, AWS Batch, CodeBuild, CodeDeploy, CodeArtifact.

  • You have extensive experience with automated unit and integration testing.

  • Ideally, you have knowledge and experience with Infrastructure Automation and working with CI/CD pipelines.


  • You are comfortable working with different Architecture Styles and Patterns (REST, Microservices, Event-Driven Architectures, Domain-Driven Design, etc.).

  • You have a keen interest in emerging technology trends.

  • You have proven the ability to embrace new technologies quickly and are adept at helping others understand them.

  • You communicate with others across the business to collaborate and align on key topics and business strategy, to ensure our teams are always working toward shared goals.

  • You listen attentively and actively, building on others' opinions, avoiding early judgements, and using radical candor when expressing your opinion.

  • You foster a culture of Innovation and curiosity in your team, empowering everyone to contribute.
