About The Role

We’re looking to add an experienced backend engineer to our exceptional team to help support our goal of expanding access to, and improving the quality of, financial planning at all levels.

You’ll work across our Django codebase — from evolving established systems to building new features and areas of the platform — with the autonomy to make technical decisions and the responsibility to own the results. You’ll balance shipping quickly with performance, security, and long-term code health while working with the team to make thoughtful architectural decisions.

What You’ll Do

• Build and own backend features from planning through implementation, review, release, and ongoing improvement across our existing Django codebase and new areas of the application.
• Design and optimize database queries and data models to keep the platform performant as we serve thousands of clients.
• Build secure, reliable systems that protect sensitive financial and personal data.
• Collaborate with other engineers to make thoughtful architectural decisions that support future needs without over-engineering today’s solutions.
• Think critically about requirements, identifying technical pitfalls, edge cases, or ambiguity before they become problems.
• Actively participate in code reviews, providing thoughtful and timely feedback to maintain code quality and keep the team moving quickly.
• Investigate production issues, narrow down root causes, and know when to bring in others to help resolve them.

Qualifications

Required

• 5+ years of professional Python experience, including 3+ years building production applications with Django.
• 2+ years building RESTful APIs with Django REST Framework, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
• Strong Django fundamentals, including ORM, migrations, transactions, performance, debugging, and application architecture.
• Strong relational database fundamentals, including SQL, data modeling, indexing, and query performance.
• Strong ownership and engineering judgment, with the ability to identify pitfalls, clarify ambiguity, follow work through completion, and know when to ask for help.
• Experience working with complex business requirements in fast-paced, evolving environments across both legacy codebases and greenfield development.
• Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor while maintaining full responsibility for understanding and validating the resulting code.
• Strong communication skills with both engineering peers and business stakeholders.

Nice to Have

• Experience with AWS, Celery, task queues, and production observability tools such as Sentry.
• Experience building SaaS or FinTech products.
• Familiarity with tax planning, Roth conversions and retirement planning, insurance, or estate planning.
